Among the avalanche of review books this week was this book, Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. Hadn’t heard anything about it. I like the cover a lot, though, and from the summary below it looks like the sort of book I will either really, really dig or will find to be a complete letdown. (The name-dropping of Murakami is usually the kiss of death.)

The Great Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon out of his life as a San Francisco Web-design drone—and serendipity, sheer curiosity, and the ability to climb a ladder like a monkey has landed him a new gig working the night shift at Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore.
